snow day: day 2

today is snow day: day 3...where it is actually snowing big lovely flakes!

i am going to recall an instance from the everlong yesterday: day 2.

we decided to pick up some books on cd for our road trip...which of course meant that what ever other book we happened by would have to come too. Natalya picked up a book called The Big Book of Adventure . it has shortened versions of epic stories like: Moby-Dick, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Last of the Mohicans, Treasure Island, to name a few. the sticker says 'short stories' but if you know what a short story is, you would know the labelling was completely misinformed.
Natalya was reading Robinson Crusoe aloud to us... She is at the part where the cannibals have come to the island and Crusoe hides himself, and watches them come to shore, etc. we are now at the entry titled "Friday"..(page 13 of this book) Natalya reads aloud, "The savages left in thier canoes. More than two years later more came, about thirty men. They brought with them two prisoners and, throwing one of them to the ground next to their fire, they began to cut him to pieces. The other victim managed to flee."
I, of course, must interject a "what?!" sean and i exchange glances. and i have to ask natalya (whom just read over that part as if it were all and sundry), "they began to cut him to pieces? does that bother you natalya?"
"no--what?"
i am going to argue that her oblivion is due to the fact that she hasn't watched all the slasher movies of hacking people apart that i have, so she has no visual to put with the words... that or she just understands that these are the kinds of things that happen in adventures...sigh.
